It’s been a busy week for publishers and developers alike, as a number of pre-E3 announcements have been revealed helping to get people excited for what else may be in store at the annual show. While major announcements used to be kept under lock and key in past years prior to the event, these reveals appear to be more of a marketing tool used to generate more hype for the various companies behind it.
Along with game reveals and other software based surprises, E3 has proven to be a time when Sony and Microsoft have revealed significant hardware changes, price drops, and other updates to their consoles as well. In keeping with that tradition, a rumored hard drive update for the Xbox One looks to have just been revealed thanks to a listing online.
Currently, there’s no image associated with the listing, so it’s likely that fans will have to wait until E3 to see if the design of the new Xbox One has changed at all or if it remains the same.
Adding a bigger hard drive to the Xbox One shouldn’t be terribly surprising to gamers at this point as Microsoft experimented with this feature late last year in the Call of Duity: Advanced Warfare console bundle. The controller update has also been rumored for a couple weeks now, with more detailed information expected to come out during Microsoft’s press conference at E3.
One of the criticisms levied at both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One at launch was the lower than expected hard drive space, although evidence has already popped up that suggests the PS4 will also be getting a 1TB model. With both consoles already housing a 500GB HDD, many players have begun to run out of space requiring the user to delete older data or find an alternative hard drive solution. As digital sales and online content continue to surge in popularity this generation, making this hardware switch is smart as it is necessary for both Microsoft and Sony.
For those of you without an Xbox One or PlayStation 4, does this news affect your purchasing decision at all?
